Recreation |
| |
| There are many recreational activities you
and your family can take advantage of. Whether
it be enjoying the great outdoors (which Yellowknife
certainly is abundant), playing organized or
individual sports, or participating and/or attending
the many cultural events, you can always find
something fun and entertaining to do in Yellowknife. |

| Outdoor Adventure |
| |
Yellowknife is surrounded by thousands of
kilometres of wide-open spaces just waiting
for you to explore and enjoy.
The summer, with its many hours of daylight,
is a great time for Yellowknifers to get out
to enjoy the wonderful weather. Yellowknife,
and the surrounding area, has many parks, campgrounds,
hiking and walking trails, playgrounds, tennis
courts, and softball and fastball diamonds for
residents to enjoy. And for the water enthusiasts,
the choices are endless. Water-skiing, jet skiing,
windsurfing, boating, or just swimming at the
local beach are very popular pastimes among
local residents. Golfers can also rest easy
with eighteen challenging holes offered at the
Yellowknife Golf Club.
You can also enjoy some of the best fishing
in the world right here on Great Slave Lake.
Great Slave Lake is home to some of the largest
fish in the world. You can do battle with king-sized
lake trout, champion grayling, walleye, and
fierce Northern pike.
As for the winter, it is anything but boring.
During the winter months, residents can enjoy
snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and
ice fishing. And for the cross-country skiing
enthusiast, there is a local ski club that offers
many groomed ski trails. The winter is also
the best time for aurora viewing. Residents
can enjoy viewing natures biggest light
show on many winter nights near Yellowknife. |
